Around Ashby

And just because Laura loves Ashby and the area so much, the "Things to do around Ashby" page remains...

Ashby de la Zouch

*Laura jumps for joy* and now I can tell you about all the nice things we have around and about that you might like to visit if you have the time or are planning to make a long weekend trip up here :)

so first....

We love Ashby, however Ashby's biggest fault = everything is closed on Sundays.
However we highly recommend a trip into our lovely market town any other day! There are lots of nice little shops, the absolute MUSTs: Black and Blossom (home accessories and gifts), Black and Blossom Deli (*hungry glazed stare* lots of nice things to eat), Woodlanders (Home stuffs, with Radley handbags), Sweet Memory Lane (proper sweet shop)and of course the Yankee Candle shop :)

We have lots of nice places to eat too, the cafe, Number 76 on the main street is a firm favorite, awesome cream teas.

You could visit the castle ruins, an English Heritage site, or drive just outside of Ashby to either the Ferrer Centre (please note, car parking charges on the weekends - think its about £2ish?) which has some nice studio shops and another awesome tea room, as well as being a nice place to walk around and see the Staunton Harold Church

OR the National Trust owned Calke Abbey which is also a nice stroll around park grounds along side the deer park.

Around Leicester centre itself is obviously the fancy Highcross Shopping Centre, lots of good resturants and all the usual shops here!

The Space Centre:
We have visited The National Space Centre a couple of times now, we have enjoyed the exhibits and the Planetarium. It is not very big but the weird cocoon part houses a real rocket :D

Leicester Museums:
Leicester Museums and Galleries are listed here on the Leicester City Council webpage.

A rather nice stroll along The New Walk takes you to The New Walk Museum which has a rather nice dinosaur gallery, and the Rutland Dinosaur exhibit, please check the website for more info and directions.

Other Places

Other places you might like to visit for a day trip are:

The monkey filled Twycross Zoo which is open all year round.

The local theme park Drayton Manor.
